What is Magnesium?

Magnesium is one of the most abundant elements found on the planet. It is also one of the most commonly utilized structural metals—third only behind iron and aluminum.
Magnesium alloys are the lightest metal structural materials used for engineering applications. Not only are they ideal for their lightness, but the combination of strength and lightness makes magnesium alloys highly flexible and versatile.
Magnesium alloys are often used in the automotive, aerospace, weapons, electronic and other fields, because of their low density, high specific strength and stiffness, good damping characteristics, as well as excellent castability. Most notably in the field of automobile manufacturing, magnesium alloys have replaced the steel, cast iron and even aluminum alloys. Since Magnesium is the lightest of all structural metals, these alloys can reduce the weight of vehicles, thus significantly contributing to fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions.
Nowadays, magnesium alloy products have been mainly manufactured by the die casting process. At Hadco, we offer two different shapes of magnesium alloys: sheet/plate and round bar. Both AZ31 Magnesium Alloy Sheets\Plates and Round Bars are the most ductile and popular amongst AZ wrought alloys. Soft as it is, AZ31 offers a good combination of strength and ductility for structural applications after deformation with severe reductions. Magnesium Sheet & Plate

Magnesium sheet and plate find application in medium strength service at temperatures below 150°C. Uses of magnesium sheet/plate are diverse and include the manufacture of aircraft fuselages, concrete tools, cell phones, cameras, notebook computer cases and textile machinery. The AZ31 Magnesium Plate has many benefits and special characteristics which gives many AZ31 magnesium sheet uses.
For example, it absorbs vibration much longer while keeping dimensional stability. This gives it 4 to 5 times greater tool life. u It is up to 5 times more machinable than rolled aluminum. It can machine dry, without oil or chemicals.
